With reference to your letter of the 19th ultimo (53669/36), I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you that They are prepared to grant facilities to Mr. W. L. Handyside, who is compiling a history of Hong Kong, to search the Admiralty Digests up to the year 1920, in order that he may indicate the papers which he

considers would be of use to him in his work. Consideration will then be given as to whether or not particular papers can be made available to him.

When he is ready to commence work, Mr. Handyside should place himself in communication with Mr. E.W. Griffin, Head of Record Office, Admiralty.

The Under Secretary of State,

Your obedient Servant,
